During the early stages his 7th persona seemed to be something of a clown with his juggling and spoon playing . This was not to last and a darker more sinister side to his nature began to emerge. This harder more alien aspect to him became apparent during a conflict with the Daleks in 1960's Londont as he lured his old enemy Davros, into his trap.A remote stellar manipulator ( a device programmed to manipulate or destroy stars) was programmed by the Doctor to wipe out Skaro, the home planet of Davros and his Daleks. It's ironic that he commited this act of genocide, the very act of which he was accused during his last incarnation.
This Doctor was not only a man of great knowledge but also master of deception and deviousness.Throughout his 7th incarnation he seemed to have detailed knowledge of his enemies plans and always outmanoeuvred them. This was a far cry from the 5th Doctor, who seemed to loose out to his enemies as often as he triumphed. Yet despite his ruthlessness, he cared deeply for those he was trying to protect. He developed a close friendship with his companion Ace. He became her mentor and protector. Yet there were times when he appeared to act rather callously towards her. She discovered that he'd landed the Tardis in 19th Century Perivale (her home town). Perhaps at some point Ace had confessed to committing arson, burning down an old home which had long been abandoned. She had sensed something evil there and it frightened her. Without telling Ace he travelled back in time to a point where the house was occupied. When she discovered what the Doctor had done Ace was furious and hurt at what she saw as a betrayal of her trust in him. Although the issue was resolved he has acted with a lack of sensitivity to her feelings. He did this again when he used her to defeat an old enemy. He called her an emotional cripple. This really cut deep and seriously jeopardised their friendship.
Despite the Doctor's apparent self assurance and knowledge of things
to come he was at times plagued by self doubt. He seemed to carry a
heavy burden of responsibility for the lives that he'd touched and
could possibly be destroyed by his actions. It was if the Doctor was
the parent and the universe his child.
As time rolled on the Doctor, now alone for once, seemed to have
slipped into retirement. The Tardis had undergone something of a
face lift with the interior looking very different. Perhaps he felt
the need for respite from the hazardous lifestyle he'd been leading.
However this time of peace and tranquility wasn't to last long as
he was requested by the Master (an old enemy of the Doctor's to
bring his remains back to Gallifrey. As he began the journey home
the Master escaped. The Doctor was shot and injured while trying
to find his old nemesis. It seemed somewhat out of character for the
Doctor to blunder into a situation like this. But blunder in he did
and while Grace Holloway a top surgeon at the hosptial treating him
removed the bullets from him he flatlined. Despite all efforts to
save him the 7th Doctor died at 10.03pm New Years Eve 1999.
