Part 1
The Time Lords were a civilisation of immense power and culture. For aeons they lived a reclusive existence, known only through myths and legends. Yet this was not always the case. Early in their history they were a race of explorers, adventurers. They looked like humans but had the following different physical characteristics - Other physiological differences from humans include two hearts (which normally beat at 170 beats a minute), an internal body temperature of 15 degrees Celsius (human internal body temperature is 37 degrees Celsius) and a "respiratory bypass system" that allows them to survive strangulation or even short term exposure to a vacuum.
Their passion for exploration and adventure led them to develop the science of temporal physics and transdimensionlism – the ability to transcend the dimensions that separate our universe from others.
Two great scientists, Omega and Rassilon theorised that if they detonated a super massive star and used the energy of the resulting explosion and resulting black hole to power a device known as the Eye of Harmony then it would be possible to generate the energies necessary to travel through time.
A fleet of ships were built and, led by Rassilon and Omega they left their homeworld of Gallifrey and headed towards the nearest suitable star – Quaba. Once there they would detonate the star while sheltered within stasis shields which would protect the fleet from the explosion. However the resulting supernova shattered the stasis shields destroying Omega’s ship and everyone on board.
A national day of mourning took place upon Rassilon’s return to Gallifrey and Omega was revered as the father of the Time Lords. Despite the tragedy work continued and the Eye of Harmony was placed deep within the central city of the Time Lords – The Capitol. Following on from the theories and designs put forth by Omega and Rassilon, the first time ships were built. These early ships traversed back and forth and great technological strides were made. The ships became ever more sophisticated with chameleon circuits fitted to enable a ship to disguise itself and blend in with its surroundings. If in a forest it would disguise itself as a tree and so on.
